Beginning February 2017, we are giving 50 women based in the UK objects that have been left behind on the Island of Lesvos and in a Serbian transition camp by 50 women seeking a better life. We ask that they find a place for the object in their homes and write about this experience. We will meet and have conversations, photograph the object in its new home, interview the participants and finally, ask each participant to write a letter to the woman who once owned the object.
We’re not sure how we will use the material we collect—the emphasis is on the process itself.
The goal of this piece is to raise awareness of and respond to migration, especially its effects on women. We feel this is important at this time since European policy on borders has pushed the problem away from Europe and press attention is waning.
Please email us (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you are interested in being involved in this project.
